My Successor Won’t Inherit Any Abandoned Project – VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has assured that he will not leave any abandoned project for his successor.
Prof. Balogun gave the assurance just as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council conferred on him, Honorary Membership of the ‘pen profession’, based on his achievements in office and support for the body.                                                Fielding questions from newsmen at a Media Dinner held at the Sweet Sensation Hall, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, Professor Balogun assured that his successor will not inherit any abandoned project after the expiration of his tenure.

Reacting to question on whether he has anointed candidate as successor, Prof. Balogun responded to the contrary.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the choice of a successor goes beyond him, adding that he can only pray that God should give the University a good successor that will be able to continue with the current developmental streak in the University.
Besides, Prof. Balogun said it is extremely difficult for any Vice-Chancellor to install a successor because Vice-Chancellorship is a divine opportunity.

Don Makes Waves in Research

Dr. Uwemedimo Ekpo, the Head, Department of Biological Sciences of the University, is making a breakthrough in his research activities to the admiration of the international community.
Dr. Ekpo’s research interest, led to the development of a Geostatistical Model on all the available data on Schistosomiasis, a disease which causes enormous human suffering as it makes its victims show symptoms of blood in the urine, chronic tiredness and lethargy.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, has cautioned admission touts to steer clear of the institution as it has zero tolerance for cheating and examination malpractices.
The Vice-Chancellor gave the warning while monitoring the entrance examination into the Pre-Degree Programmes of the University’s Institute for Human Resources Development (INHURD), in which over 6,000 candidates wrote the examination.

FUNAAB Becomes World Bank Centre of Excellence

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), is  now one of the World Bank’s Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) in  Agriculture.
The University was chosen after a rigorous desk evaluation exercise, which was followed by a site evaluation by the ACE Project Steering Committee, which held its final selection meeting in Dakar, Senegal recently.
A breakdown of the result shows that FUNAAB is one of the seven (7) ACE’s in Nigeria and the only one (1) for Agriculture in the country.
The project won by FUNAAB, would be implemented through the Centre for Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CADESE), having scored 75.2% in the overall evaluation score in Agriculture.   Read more...

A programme, tagged The DREAM Project, is now available for students in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, as well as staff members to undertake a mobility period, or full degree, in some of the best universities in Europe. Scholarships are available for Master and Doctorate students and also for staff members (Academic and Administrative) and it includes a monthly allowance, travel, insurance and tuition fees. FUNAAB was awarded by prestigious Campus Sneak Africa after visiting Universities in Africa.
According to the Producer/Director, Campus Sneak Africa, Mr. Fazzy Adebayo Adesoji, FUNAAB was trailed by University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

TETFUND Conference Attendance Intervention Grant

The University Management has called for staffers’ applications for the 2012 TETFUND Conference Attendance Intervention Fund.
A memo dated January 16, 2013 and signed by the Director, Centre for Internationalization and Partnerships (CENIP), Dr. Akeem Oyekanmi, stated that the TETFUND Conference Attendance Intervention Fund is available to support staff planning to attend International Conference.

Interested applicant have been advised to forward their application to the Vice-Chancellor through the Director, CENIP not later than fourteen (14) working days from the above stated date, in order to access the fund.

The ongoing 2012.2013 First Semester Examination has added a positive twist as the Management had engaged the personnel of the University’s Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC) in the application of Computer Based Test (CBT) for students.

2012/2013 FIRST SEMESTER EXAMINATION: FUNAAB Gives Less Privileged Students Special Consideration …As TIMTEC Chairman Unfolds Welfare Measures …Makes Case for a Physically Challenged who Writes Slowly than Usual



Not batting an eyelid, the Chairman of the Time-Table and Examination Committee (TIMTEC), Dr.Ikechukwu James on Wednesday reeled out a catalogue of logistic measures taken by the University towards making the ongoing examination a  success.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with FUNAAB Bulletin, Dr. James said  he was gladdened by the fact that the Management has improved on its special consideration for the less privileged students during the examination.
He disclosed that waivers like not allowing the less privileged to seat or line up at Step Down and Holding Centre, leading to the examinations halls , topped the list of special consideration accorded the physically challenged in the ongoing exam.
Dr. James informed that as usual, vehicles that the University specially and exclusively provided for the conveyance of the physically challenged were fully on ground.
He, however, called on the Management to grant a less privileged student,  who write slowly than usual, due to genetic defects more time to write his papers in the ongoing examination and subsequent ones.

Prof. Lateef Sanni Steps UP …Becomes CORAF/WECARD STC Member



The Head of Department (HOD), Food Science and Technology, College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), Professor Lateef Oladimeji Sanni is now a member of the prestigious Scientific and Technical Committee of West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD).
The selection of Sanni, a member of the University Governing Council (internal) and President of the University Alumni Association was confirmed by the Board of CORAF/WECARD in a Letter Reference No. 2013/0120/SC/HRM/SE, dated 15th January, 2013 and signed by the Executive Director, Dr. Harold Roy-Macaulay.
According to a copy of the letter made available to the University and copied FUNAAB Bulletin, Professor Sanni’s selection was based on his “level of expertise in the area of competence in agricultural research”.
According to Dr. Roy-Macaulay, the Scientific and Technical Committee of which Professor Sanni is now a member is a statutory organ of CORAF/WECARD and the technical advisory arm of the Governing Board.
It is composed of twelve (12) experts chosen intuit personae from the National Agricultural System (NARS), FARP and partner institutions.

...receives donation from Kuwaiti Professor


Professor Darish Al-Azmi of the College of Technological Studies, Kuwait, had donated a radar measuring equipment to the University. Professor Al-Azmi, a personal friend to the Head, Department of Physics, Dr. Amidu Olalekan Mustapha, made the donation during his recent visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole.
The equipment constitutes the Gamma Ray Dosimeter for measuring radiation and other devices for measuring radioactivity in food and environmental materials. Read more...
